Fostering London

Fostering london is an extraordinary opportunity to give children who have experienced trauma, loss and disruption the love, stability and security they need. It is an essential part of child welfare, helping children who cannot remain with their birth families to find the home they deserve. However, fostering can be difficult and challenging for both carers and the children in their care.

How do I become a foster carer in London?

Many children in foster care have experienced severe difficulties before being placed with a family, often resulting in high levels of stress and behavioural problems. This can lead to a lack of support and poor outcomes for the child, such as placement instability and lower educational and health achievements.

There is a need to find more families to provide foster care in England, Scotland and Wales. Currently, more than 65,000 children are living with foster carers in the UK. Fostering is an excellent way to make a difference in the lives of children in need, and it can be done by single people, couples, parents with children or grandparents. You do not have to own your own home, but you will need a spare bedroom.

The study has been approved by the University of Hertfordshire Research Ethics Committee (reference cLMS/SF/UH/04242). All participants will be informed of their group allocation. If they are assigned to the intervention arm of the study, their local authority will be contacted by the study team. They will be referred to specialist support services (e.g. CAMHS and Educational Psychology) as usual, and this will not affect their participation in the study.
